- Berries of the genus rubus, such as blackberries, were a common source of dyes in antiquity.
- Bramble fruit, like raspberries, blackberries and boysenberries ( all members of the genus Rubus ), grow on canes that are sometimes called woody biennials.
- From the Middle Ages onward, purple and violet dyes for the clothing of common people were often made from the blackberry or other red fruit of the genus rubus, or from the mulberry.
- This species tends to be fairly inactive during the day, with typical mnuka and pMhutukawa, but can also be found feeding on introduced plants, particularly Roses and genus Rubus ( berries ).
